Inspiration for your Home Garden, Japanese Gardens

4. Japanese GardenTraveling to new places and observing diverse cultures often sparks new ideas and creates inspiration for your home garden. Japanese gardens are carefully designed spaces that contain important traditional elements. These design elements can be incorporated into our Montanan gardens, while still keeping our Montana mountain-rustic style.

In Japanese gardens, the landscape surrounding the garden becomes a part of it with the incorporation of distant views. The surrounding landscape is also mimicked within the garden by using large rocks and small hills to represent mountains, and rounded stones and sand to represent water. Paths are strategically used to guide views within the garden, and to separate spaces that should be observed separately. Water is the focus of the garden, creating a sense of peace within the space, and vegetation is chosen for its seasonal interest to bring life to the present moment.
